Poverty

Poverty

Poverty covers the world from the cities to the countryside. While some poverty is because of the laziness of people to not have a job sometimes it is because people can not find a job that pays enough to supply the necessary needs. If you make minimum wage and work the standard work week then you will still be below the poverty line. You can survive but you will not live the greatest life that you could have. Many things contribute to poverty and a few of them are unemployment, bad education, healthcare, and also insurance. Poverty in the world could be fought against by donations and volunteering but spreading out the wealth would do the best job at eliminating poverty.

Unemployment does not help poverty in any manner but it does give people an idea that this world is not perfect. If you see someone on the side of the street you think they are unemployed and homeless, which is mostly true but just because you are homeless doesn’t mean that you are unemployed. Some of the people that are living in the projects or in assisted housing are not unemployed but just can not afford to pay their rent still. Unemployment causes the overpopulation and bad living conditions in the urban areas because there are more jobs in the cities. Unemployed people move out of the rural areas to these cities. People move to the cities so that they could hopefully take advantage of those opportunities. The problem with it is that their rent goes up after a while and they can’t afford that so then they must find a new place, live in a shantytown, or be homeless.

Also these problems with housing do not help poverty because they make the homeless never have a shot to have a place to live. The assisted housing doesn’t really exist that much in rural areas but they exist quite frequently in urban areas. In Cincinnati they are all over the place on both sides of the river. The prices of housing in the areas that should not rise do and that throws those people in poverty into the homeless cycle. They move into these projects which are supported by either the government or a private party and that group controls the price of the projects for that area. It is an easy way to make money because you control the prices but at the same time you don’t have to do much maintenance on them and you can let them slip into a bad area because they are doing it for the community anyways. When the prices rise though it starts off by making those people find cheaper housing who can’t afford it anymore, then those people who can not find housing in another project or anywhere else will have to go to a community program at a church or other establishment. Once those are all full then those people have to find a place to stay that night on the street somewhere.

Poverty is never good but there are things that we can do about it. Volunteering and giving donations can help eliminate poverty in rural and urban areas. If everyone would do their part we could make it less hard on those who are in poverty and we can help put shelter, at least over everyone’s heads. If we would help the homeless people just a little bit then they could put some effort in to getting their lives back to a normal level.
